Congratulations to Toby Farrell of the Bantam AA North York Knights for starting the season with 5 wins + 1 loss. The only game Toby has lost this year so was by a score of 1 - 0. According to his goalie coach Jamie McGuire "Toby has matured a lot over the past 12 months and is now playing better than ever before. He is really focusing on the small details of his game in practice and it is paying huge dividends for him." Toby a grade 9 student at Malvern was also selected to play on his 2005 - 2006 High School Senior Hockey Team. |
MGHD Goaltender Profile - October 2005 Omar Kanji - 1991, Wexford Raiders AAA Congratulations to Omar Kanji + Anthony Mangoff who have both made the jump this year from AA hockey to AAA hockey. Omar played AA last year for the Markham Islanders and Anthony played AA for the Scarborough Young Bruins. |

Erika Silva, East Coast Wizards MGHD instructor + student Erika Silva has been hired as the Assistant Coach of the Women's Hockey Team at Boston University, NCAA D1. Silva is currently playing with the USA National Program as a member of the East Coast Wizards, a travel team based primarily of US Olympians who play in a men's Jr. B league. |

Kelly Downes, Mike Cleavely + Danik Ouimet "Team Canada's Goaltenders Shine in Calgary" Kelly Downes, Mike Cleavely + Danik Ouimet all proved that they are capable of leading the Canadian National Amputee Team into next years World Championship Tournament in Italy during the 2006 Winter Olympics. All three goaltenders played extremely well during this past weeks showcase tournament in Calgary, Alberta. |
MGHD Goaltender Profile - April 2005 Vinnie Martino, Vaughan Rangers 1991 AA
His Vaughan Rangers defeated the number one ranked Markham Islanders in the GTHL AA Minor Bantam Final. According to his goalie coach Jamie McGuire "Vinnie has worked extremely hard this year trying to improve his conditioning and quickness. He does a great job playing positional goaltending and sees the game really well." Vinnie has been training with MGHD for the past 2 years. |
MGHD Goaltender Profile - March 2005 Omar Kanji, Markham Islanders 1991 AA
Omar and his goaltending partner + part-time MGHD Student Adam Hall helped lead their Markham Islanders Minor Bantam AA team to a GTHL Carnation Cup Title and almost had an undefeated season, finishing with a 32-2-2 record. Omar + Adam combined for a 1.75 goals against average over the 36 game schedule. According to Omar's Goalie Coach Jamie McGuire, "Omar is one of the hardest working goalies in our program and has continued to improve year after year. His succes this season can be attributed directly to his intense work ethic in practice and during his private lessons. He is also very teachable and always willing to try new things in order to improve." Omar is currently a student at UCC and would like to one day attend a NCAA school on a scholorship. |
MGHD Goaltender Profile - February 2005 Sean Samuel, Dartmouth Big Green, NCAA
Samuel was also named the MVP of the Ledyard National Bank Tournament last weekend after leading the Big Green to the tourney title. He stopped a career-high 38 shots against Bowling Green in the opening round and, after a 1-1 OT tie, was solid between the pipes during a shootout to determine which squad would advance to the championship game. In the finals, he made 35 saves against rival Vermont, including 16 in the final stanza to capture the 6-3 victory. For the weekend, he stopped 73 of the 77 shots he faced (not including the shootout) for a .948 save percentage and a 1.92 goals against average. For the year, the sophomore has a 2.40 G.A.A., and a .917 save percentage. Sean is the son of Scott and Julie Samuel and played for the Newmarket Hurricanes (OJHL), prior to enrolling at Dartmouth. |
Cameron McFadyen, Toronto Royals Peewee A Cameron helped lead his team to a tourniment championship over the holidays. His hard work over the past 6 months has helped elevate his game. |
Vicky Vigilanti + Brandon Bittner, Markham Islanders Minor Bantam AAA Congratulations to Vicky + Brandon for leading their team to their first points of the season. First Brandon shut down the Toronto Redwings in a 2 - 2 draw and then 5 days later Vicky closed the door on the Don Mills Flyers 4 - 2. Both goalies have been playing solid and are key factors in the teams recent success. |
Mandy Cronin, Telus Lightning, NWHL Congratulations to Mandy Cronin who returned home this week from her first Team USA National Team Training Camp in Lake Placid. "Putting on the USA jersey was a dream come true...something that I have worked for my entire career and a moment I will cherish forever" said Mandy. |
